Tick season is here!

Once the rain started, our parks in the East Bay and all over the state have become breeding grounds for the little annoying bugs called Ticks. In California, we are home to the Deer Tick, the Brown Dog Tick, and the Lonestar Tick, among other species. As dog owners, we are responsible for checking our dogs over after every hike, and we have been pulling more of the little buggers out of our dogs as the rains continue.

Visit this site for some useful information about ticks, the diseases they may carry, how to help prevent them from getting on yourself and your dogs, and how to safely remove and treat dogs for ticks.

We use a handy tool called the "Tick Key" to remove them if they've gotten lodged in there. They always seem to be around the ears and neck, on the chest and belly, but remember to check everywhere.
